Romantic Sunset Dinner

When you arrive the host will guide you through the lush tropical gardens, filled with orchids and frangipani trees, to our private table set right beside the lotus pond at Kang Eang Restaurant. In this romantic settings you will see beautiful Crimson rose petals scattered atop the crisp white table linen. Crystal wine glasses, fine china and polished cutlery glimmered in the soft glow of hanging paper lanterns as we settled onto the embroidered silk cushions.

It was Valentine’s Day and we were treated to Kang Eang’s seasonal set menu meticulously crafted to tantalize all five senses. As we gazed lovingly into each other’s eyes, our server presented the opening act – plump shrimp rolls bursting with sweet, briny flavor nested in rice paper and green mango salad dressed in a lip-smacking chili lime vinaigrette. Our taste buds thrilled as we nibbled the perfect starter bites, whetting our appetite for more sensorial pleasures to come.

Our glasses were filled with aromatic Thai white wine, its tropical bouquet awakening our senses further just as our server whisked away empty plates to present the second course. Baked chicken served in a young coconut shell and swimming in an addictive red curry sauce arrived at our table, the aroma of lemongrass, kaffir lime and chilies flooding our nostrils. We relished the tender poultry’s juicy succulence against tangy, gently spiced coconut broth.

As the last light of dusk faded from the evening sky leaving only scattered stars flickering above, small lanterns adorning the lotus pond were lit, setting aglow our intimate dining space. We gazed into one another’s eyes, speaking without words of our affection through the magnetic pull of our locked stare. My lover’s hand gently caressed my own, sending shivers through my body.

Just then, our server gracefully delivered a work of art – grilled lobster tail paired with plump shrimp perfectly perched atop a mound of garlic fried rice and morning glory flash-fried with chili and oyster sauce. Our glasses were refreshed with a crisp French Sauvignon Blanc that cut through the plate’s richer flavors like a knife. Dining opulently amidst sensuous jungle gardens created an atmosphere of true romance – Valentine’s magic filled the steamy night air.

I slowly savored each sweet morsel of expertly prepared seafood while gazing longingly across the table as my partner did the same. This was already the Valentine’s Day of our dreams, but the best was yet to come.

For dessert, warm sticky rice cakes bathed in sweet coconut cream and bright mango sauce were served alongside small cups of smooth French vanilla gelato. Spoonfuls were slowly hand-fed between delighted smiles and playful laughter.

Just when we thought the evening could get no more magical, the server appeared with one final surprise – flutes of chilled champagne were presented to toast our remarkable evening of food, flavors and intimacy in this tropical Thai paradise. The deliciously effervescent bubbles only elevated the exquisite romantic climax we experienced at Kang Eang. It was a Valentine’s Day for the ages.
